Keith Lee reviews soul food from a popular spot in Southfield, Michigan, spending $94.34 on several dishes. Though the service was good, he noted that the restaurant requires in-person orders as they don’t take phone orders or use delivery services. He shared his thoughts on the dishes he tried:
- Lamb chops: Juicy but slightly too sweet, not as tender as he’d like. Rated 7/10.
- Collard greens: Well-seasoned, vinegary, and full of smoked turkey meat, giving them a comforting “Auntie-made” vibe. Rated 8.2/10.
- Black-eyed peas: His favorite dish, perfectly seasoned and the best black-eyed peas he’s ever had. Rated 9/10.
- Salmon: Well-glazed, sweet, salty, and cooked to perfection. Reminded him of homemade family cooking. Rated 8/10.
- Oxtails: Surprisingly tender and well-seasoned, though not the best he’s had. Rated 8/10.
- Mashed potatoes and gravy: Lumpy, homemade style, with gravy that didn’t impress him. Rated 7/10.
- Mac and cheese: Cheesy but lacking in flavor, tasting more like salty noodles. Rated 3/10.
Keith concluded that while this wasn’t the best soul food he’s ever had, it was still good and worth trying. He wasn’t sure if it was the best in Southfield but enjoyed the experience overall.

Is this the best soul food in Southfield, Michigan? Or at least to me?
Let’s find out.
I got it. Let’s try it and rate it 1 to 10. We spent ninety-four dollars and thirty-four cents. Customer service while there was good. They don’t take any phone orders, so you gotta go in and order. They’re also not on delivery services or have a website, so you gotta go in and order. But a lot of foodies in Detroit said this is some of the best soul food, so I’m excited.
So, I’mma show you the things I got, and we gonna try it and rate it 1 to 10.
Sweet glazed salmon with collard greens and rice.
Lamb chops with black-eyed peas and collard greens.
Oxtails, mashed potatoes, and gravy, and mac and cheese.
Just based on presentation, I’m not a huge fan. I don’t know… is that lamb chop juice everywhere? Look at the bag they gave us. I think the presentation can be improved if you ask me.
The lamb chops first. Hey, juicy! Dripping. Well, it’s soaked in the sauce. It’s a pool of that sauce. I don’t know if you can see it. That sauce is very sweet. It’s like a sweet garlic sauce. It’s okay. I personally wish the lamb chops were a little more tender, but they are seasoned well. A little sweeter for my liking.
Let’s try the collard greens. There’s turkey meat, and it’s a lot of turkey meat. These are some good greens. Seasoned, vinegary, and the meat is smoked. There’s a lot of meat, too. These are some good greens. Tastes like Auntie made them.
Black-eyed peas… Hmm. Oh, that’s the best thing on the plate. Uh huh. Seasoned to perfection. If you ask me, it’s probably the best. I ain’t gonna say probably — that’s the best black-eyed peas I’ve ever had.
- Lamb chops: 7 out of 10
- Collard greens: 8.2 out of 10
- Black-eyed peas: 9 out of 10 (Great black-eyed peas!)
And you don’t even eat black-eyed peas? I don’t, not like that.
Now, Mr. Salmon. I opened Patty up. It’s glazed. This salmon is glazed perfectly, if you ask me. This tastes like Auntie made it, like when you’re at your cousin’s house. Well, more like an uncle made it. The salmon is sweet and salty, and it’s cooked really well.
- Salmon: 8 out of 10
Killing it, huh?
Was this here when y’all was his? Just opened?
In my honest opinion, just off the presentation, I don’t think it’s gonna be good. I don’t like how these oxtails look. Well, on camera they look way better. Mashed potatoes and gravy.
Personally, the oxtails are the best thing on this plate for me. These oxtails are surprisingly really good, in my opinion. They are tender, and they are seasoned extremely well. That’s a big oxtail — like a really big oxtail. It’s not the best oxtail I’ve ever had, but it’s up there.
- Oxtail: 8 out of 10
The mashed potatoes seem homemade, so it’s a lot of lumps in them. I’m not a huge fan of the gravy, but the mashed potatoes and gravy are solid.
- Mashed potatoes: 7 out of 10
The mac and cheese I’m not a fan of at all. It’s cheesy, but it’s not a lot of flavor. It’s just kind of salty noodles, in my opinion.
- Mac and cheese: 3 out of 10
Overall, is this the best soul food I’ve ever had? No. Is it good soul food? Absolutely. Is this the best soul food in Southfield? I don’t know because we haven’t had all the soul food.
And as always, after this, I pray and hope they reach their target audience. God bless you. Have an amazing day. Y’all be safe.
