Review Highlights
Crepe Expectations is a strip-mall crepe shop on the southeast side of Las Vegas, founded by Lou and Jen in 2011 and featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2015. After the original DDD appearance drove the line out the door, the owners moved a few doors down, tripled the space, and expanded the menu well beyond classic French crêpes into bold savory and sweet territory. Guy returned for a second visit to find them bigger and better.
- ·Teres Major carnitas crêpe — teres major shoulder cut marinated in fresh orange and lemon juice, garlic, and carnitas seasoning, cooked down then folded into a crêpe with guacamole and a fire-roasted tomato salsa; "that carnitas and that salsa with the guac — is there a Mexican restaurant in this village you're running out of town? Because that's what that tastes like"
- ·Chili Colorado crêpe — ancho chili-braised chuck shoulder slow-cooked 2½ hours in a pureed sauce of serrano peppers, red onion, celery, garlic, ancho chilies, toasted cumin, and Mexican oregano; filled with smoked gouda, topped with ancho sauce, homemade corn cakes, pico de gallo, and pepita crema; "the braised beef is nice and tender with a smoky flavor — this chili Colorado could stand up to any Mexican restaurant"
- ·Southern Comfort crêpe — fresh grilled peaches, brown butter graham cracker crumble, candied pecans, and a caramel bourbon sauce, finished with powdered sugar and fresh whipped cream; "the peaches are great, the crumble inside is fantastic — it tastes a bit flambéed. I love it and I will be back tomorrow"
Guy's verdict: the Epcot Center of crêpes — a whole galaxy of flavors in one strip-mall spot. He praised the kitchen's fearlessness in filling crêpes with anything, from deeply spiced Mexican-inspired carnitas to boozy Southern peach desserts, calling it some of the best crêpes he'd ever had. After the DDD boost tripled their business and their space: "before you know it, he's going to take over this entire parking lot."
