I was told—and borderline threatened on multiple occasions—that if I came to Toronto and didn’t try Somali food, I didn’t experience Toronto. So I got Somali food.

I got it. Let’s try it and rate it 1 to 10. We spent $98.29. My family said the customer service was a 9 out of 10. They said the lady was extremely helpful. She literally ran through the whole menu with them.

Not personally at the shoutout, but shoutout to them for helping us with the selection, because they sent me a full list of what to get from this place. I’m excited.

I’mma show you the things I got, and we’re gonna try everything 1 to 10.

Coat and rice.
That’s not the traditional name of this dish, but the lady was nice enough to break it down into terms we fully understand. We also got beef stew and chapati, T-bone and pasta, chicken stew, and for dessert, milk cake. I was also told to get bananas and rice, but they didn’t have any.

We’re gonna start with the goat. I’ve had goat before, but never in this form. That thing hanging—that’s the least gamey goat I’ve ever had in my life. I wouldn’t know that was goat if you didn’t tell me. It’s seasoned real well. I thought it was gonna be spicy—it’s not spicy at all, but with rice and peppers. This is really well-seasoned meat with some rice. I’m not mad at this at all. It’s fresh, too.

I’m surprised, but I’m starting really high. 8.2 out of 10. I can see this not being everybody’s cup of tea, though. If you don’t like goat, I can see not liking this, but to me, this is really good goat.

Next, the T-bone and pasta.
These bones are real big. Oh, I thought it was gonna be multiple pieces, but it’s just one piece. It’s tender, though. This is just real char, real seasoned T-bone steak. Awesome. The pasta definitely has some kind of tangy, a little bit sour sauce on it. I’m not mad at it, but it’s extremely different for me.

The T-bone, in my opinion, is 8 out of 10. The pasta, on the other hand, 5 out of 10. I’m not a huge fan of the pasta.

Now, the beef stew with chapati.
I see carrots, peas, onions. It’s an eclipse right now in Canada, and there’s some loud background noise—excuse that. What is that? Sorry about that! I’m not sure if that’s how you’re supposed to eat it, but I’m eating it like this.

In my opinion, this is like crockpot beef stew. That’s good. The chapati is super flaky, buttery, like, vibrant. 8 out of 10, in my opinion.

The chicken stew—the color is super vibrant, like really vibrant. I don’t know if the camera does it justice, but it’s really red. It’s a little spicy, a little tangy. I might be wrong, but it kind of tastes like it was cooked with yogurt. The spices are very different, but it’s just chicken. 7.8 out of 10.

Now, what I’ve been hearing about—this milk cake.
It’s way softer than I thought it was. I’m literally not putting any pressure on this fork. I’m a texture person, so I might not like this. That’s not for me. The flavor is delicious. It’s a really, really good cake, but that texture—I’m not a fan of the texture at all.

Just based on flavor, it’s an 8.5 out of 10. But texture-wise, for me, it’s 3.5 out of 10. My sister’s over here saying, “Damn, that’s really good!” Is it? Yeah, she’s saying she’d make this her next birthday cake.

What would you give it?
A 9. Wow. Overall, for my first time trying Somali food, I don’t know if it’s the eclipse or what that noise is, but it’s real loud.

My overall experience with Somali food for the first time is extremely positive. I ain’t gonna lie—I like it. I’m a fan, and I can see why they say if you come here and don’t try it, you’re doing a disservice to yourself and the country. I’m happy I didn’t disappoint anybody—or myself.

As always, I pray after this that they reach their target audience. God bless you. Have an amazing day, and y’all be safe.

He’s smashing—you can taste the grill.
