GGC Eatery reviewed by restaurant food influencer

Keith Lee and his family travel from Chicago, Illinois, to Hampshire, Indiana, to try a small, husband-and-wife-owned restaurant. They spent $64.37 on food, and the customer service was rated a perfect 10 out of 10, with the staff being extremely kind, offering free waters and complimentary items to customers during their wait. The wait time was long (from 3:00 to 4:40), but Keith was understanding due to the size of the business.

The meal included various dishes:

  1. Soul Plate “Trinity” (catfish, chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens)

    • The catfish was crispy, thick, and well-seasoned. The smoked gouda mac and cheese was creamy and flavorful.
    • Rating: 9/10.
  2. Jerk Chicken Tips with Mashed Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes

    • The jerk chicken was good, with a smoky, spicy flavor. However, the mashed potatoes didn’t pair well with the jerk sauce, and the sweet potatoes were overly sweet, resembling pie filling.
    • Jerk Chicken Rating: 8/10
    • Mashed Potatoes Rating: 3/10
    • Sweet Potatoes Rating: 3/10.
  3. Salmon Egg Rolls

    • The salmon was too overpowering, despite the sweet and spicy sauce being nice.
    • Rating: 3/10.
  4. Black-Eyed Peas

    • Although Keith isn’t a fan of black-eyed peas, he noted that they were good and well-prepared for people who enjoy them.
    • Rating: 6/10.
  5. Cornbread

    • The cornbread tasted more like cake, with a soft, vanilla flavor and a cinnamon-like taste.
    • Rating: 6/10.

Keith appreciated the food, particularly the mac and cheese and collard greens, which made the drive worth it for him. He acknowledged the long wait but urged patience, considering the small size of the business.

Me and my family came from Chicago, Illinois, to Hampshire, Indiana. And I got the bag. I got it. Let’s try it and rate it 1 to 10.

We spent sixty-four dollars and thirty-seven cents. The customer service, my family said, was a 10 out of 10. They said not only was the guy at the front the same guy from the videos, but he was also extremely nice, extremely comforting, and offering everybody inside free waters and complimentary items for their wait.

Now, when I say they waited, we’ve been here since 3:00, and it’s 4:40, which is excessive, but it’s very small. And keep in mind, this is a husband-and-wife-owned spot, so their staff is limited.

I’mma show you everything I got, and we gonna try it and rate it. 9:59.

Salmon egg rolls, a soul plate “Trinity” which is catfish, chicken, mac and cheese, and collard greens. A plate of jerk chicken tips with mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, with a side of black-eyed peas. And last but not least, a side of cornbread.

Is this a lot of food for $60? Absolutely. These plates are busting out the seams like I was expecting them to. No, but I’m excited.

I’m gonna start with the mac and cheese. This is smoked gouda mac and cheese. Haha. This chicken, collard greens, catfish—everything in here is delicious. The catfish is crispy, thick, and seasoned extremely well. I wish there was some spice on the chicken. It’s fried, too. This is like, this is somebody’s kitchen. It tastes like Auntie made it. This mac and cheese is creamy, seasoned, and flavorful. This plate is real high. When I say real high, in my opinion, this whole plate is a 9 out of 10. Like, big bag, huge bag, tremendous bag.

It might be a long wait time, so if you do come, please, please, please keep in mind that this is a small-owned business, so please be patient.

Boy, this the jerk chicken tips. I’ve never heard of jerk chicken tips before—or chicken tips in general. I’m assuming this is just chicken thigh cut in half. That’s exactly what it is. They just cut a chicken thigh in like multiple pieces, like strips, and smoked it. It’s smoked. It’s spicy. Mashed potatoes—it’s a sauce on the mashed potatoes. It might be the jerk sauce. I’m not a huge fan, especially not for the mashed potatoes. It’s real robust, and I don’t think it goes with mashed potatoes well, in my opinion.

These sweet potatoes—girl, that’s way too sweet for me. That is a pie. It looks like a pie. That is pie filling. I’m just not the target audience. For me, that’s like a 3 out of 10. That’s a lot. That’s way too much for me.

The jerk chicken, in my opinion, is an 8 out of 10. The mashed potatoes are also a 3 out of 10 for me.

This egg roll with salmon in here—oh, hot. I’m not a huge fan of salmon. The flavor from the sweet sauce is really good. It’s like a sweet and spicy sauce, but that salmon is very overpowering. Three out of 10, like a piece.

I’m going fast because we about to miss our flight, and we gotta drive an hour back to Chicago.

The black-eyed peas, in my opinion—these are pretty good. I’m not a black-eyed peas person at all. I’m not the target audience, but I can see if you really like black-eyed peas, these would be really good to you, in my opinion. This is right above the middle—6 out of 10.

This is the cornbread. It does look like carrot cake. I ain’t never had cornbread that tastes nothing like this. This tastes like cake. It’s not even grainy like a cornbread would be. It’s very vanilla rum cake-ish without the rum. Yeah, that would be some cake. Is it cinnamon? For me, it’s like a 6 out of 10 as well.

Overall, I truly appreciate the invite. And that mac and cheese and those collard greens made the drive worth it for me.

And as always, after this, I pray and hope that they continue to reach their target audience. God bless you. Have an amazing day. Y’all be safe.

Or, reach a new audience. I say “continue” ’cause they already had an hour and a half wait time, but I think that was more people from Indiana. But if more people from different cities are their target audience, I pray and hope that they reach them, too. Y’all be safe.
