Thunderbird Pies reviewed by restaurant food influencer

Keith Lee tries food from Thunderbird Pies in Dallas, Texas, after spending $139.12. His family found the customer service unremarkable but easy to order online.

He begins with fried Brussels sprouts, which feature bacon marmalade, sweetie drop peppers, and balsamic reduction. However, he finds them too greasy and gives the following ratings:

  • Fried Brussels Sprouts: 5 out of 10 (too greasy, flavors overtaken by the oil)
  • Buffalo Wings: 7 out of 10 (solid and meaty wings)
  • Banana Pepper Ranch: 4 out of 10 (prefers regular ranch over this tangy, sour variant)

Next, Keith tries three pizzas:

  • The Goat Pizza: 3 out of 10 (dry and lacking sufficient sauce, crust was too bouncy)
  • The Bud Pizza: 3 out of 10 (overpowered by onion flavor in the sauce)
  • The Connie Pizza: 7 out of 10 (best of the lot but still dominated by strong bacon flavor)

Keith concludes that with a few adjustments, Thunderbird Pies has potential, but the food didn’t meet his expectations.

How does a pizza place have pizza that looks like this, but yet they only got 48 followers on TikTok? Are looks deceiving? I don’t know. Let’s find out.

I got it. Let’s try it and rate it 1 to 10. We spent one hundred and thirty-nine dollars and twelve cents.

This pizza is from Thunderbird Pies here in Dallas, Texas. My family said while the customer service wasn’t bad, nothing really stood out to them. But I will say it was really easy to order. I just ordered online.

I’mma show you everything I got, and we gonna try it, rate it one to ten.

  • Little bastards, which are fried Brussels sprouts.
  • A kale BS salad.
  • Buffalo wings with banana pepper ranch.
  • A Connie pizza, which is double pepperoni and bacon.
  • A Bud pizza, which is a classic tomato sauce and cheese.
  • The Goat, which is a monthly pizza. I made a mistake and ordered two, so we gonna give one to somebody we see first.

We gonna start with the Brussels sprouts. I’mma be reading off my phone because it’s a lot of ingredients. These are fried Brussels sprouts with bacon marmalade, sweetie drop peppers, and balsamic reduction. I’m not sure what sweetie drop peppers are. We didn’t get no forks, so I’m gonna eat this with my hands. But my hands are clean.

These Brussels sprouts are a little too fried for me. Hmm. Before I give my opinion, let me get all the toppings. Hold on.

The bacon marmalade is good, the peppers are good, but I really don’t like how they cooked these Brussels sprouts. They’re too greasy. That’s all I really taste—the grease takes away from the flavor of the Brussels sprouts. I really like Brussels sprouts, and I can’t taste them at all. I just taste grease. But the bacon marmalade and the cheese are really good. But it’s just bacon, cheese, and peppers. It’s supposed to be good, and it is.

For me, this is a 5 out of 10. If the Brussels were broiled or sautéed, I feel like that would improve the rating.

These are buffalo wings with banana pepper ranch. I ain’t never heard of that before. I’m assuming they just took ranch and squeezed banana pepper juice in there.

I’mma try it first with the ranch. Banana pepper ranch—I get a little bit of it on the back end. It’s a little spicy, and it’s got a bit of a kick. By itself, it’s more tangy and sour than regular ranch, but I don’t know if that’s necessarily a good thing. It’s different, but if you ask me, I would prefer regular ranch to be honest with you.

It’s a solid wing though. They’re real big, they’re meaty. At the end of the day, it’s just a decent wing. The wings I give a 7 out of 10, and the ranch, I give a 4 out of 10.

We don’t have a fork, so I’mma skip the salad.

I’m assuming this is what a sweetie pepper is. I’ve never seen it before. This might be a Texas thing or something. I like that. It’s not spicy at all. It’s more of a sweet pepper with a little bit of fruitiness to it.

Next up, we have The Goat pizza. According to the menu, this is a cheese blend with pepperoni, hot soppressata, brisket, goat cheese, and jalapeño pesto. I’m a sucker for Detroit-style pizza with super crispy edges and golden brown on the bottom.

Mmm. The crust itself is a little bouncy. I’m not a huge fan of that, and for me, it’s also on the dry side. The pizza feels real dry. I don’t see any tomato sauce.

You know, Detroit-style pizzas usually have the sauce on top. If the jalapeño pesto is meant to replace the tomato sauce, in my opinion, there should be a lot more of it. When I say a lot more, I mean 10 times as much, because right now, this is bread and cheese. 3 out of 10.

As always, these are my opinions. I don’t mean no harm.

Next, we have The Bud, which is the original. It’s got a caramelized cheese crust and tomato sauce. I specified that it has Parmesan cheese on it, and it looks like Parmesan and basil, if I’m not mistaken. It does look delicious, I ain’t gonna lie.

Mmm. The sauce is super oniony, and while I like onions, this is so overpowering. That’s all I taste. I do appreciate that it has more sauce, so it’s not as dry as the other one, but I’m not the target audience for this sauce at all.

I’m gonna try the crust, since I didn’t get to it on the last one. The crust is pretty much all Parmesan cheese. Mmm. That’s the best part of the pizza. As for the sauce, I think they definitely need to cut back on onions, but again, that’s just my personal opinion. Other people might like it. I just don’t.

This one is also a 3 out of 10.

Last but not least, we got a small Connie, which is double pepperoni with added bacon, cheese, and basil. Presentation-wise, they knock it out of the park. I just wish there was more sauce, and not this particular sauce.

In my opinion, it’s the same sauce as the previous pizza, but the bacon is super overpowering. I don’t taste much besides the bacon. But I do love the sausage-to-cheese ratio on this one. This is my favorite by far. If you’re not a pork fan, I don’t think you’re gonna like this, because the bacon is really strong.

Personally, this is 7 out of 10 for me. It’s still not the best pizza in the world, but compared to the other ones, this is the one I’d grab for sure.

Overall, with a few minor adjustments, I can see this place being good. I appreciate the recommendations, and I pray and hope after this, they reach their target audience.

God bless you. Have an amazing day. Y’all be safe.
